Supplying Vital Medical Aid To Fiji, The Pacific & India’s Communities

Vedanta Charitable Foundation

Did you know that surplus medical equipment from Australia is being sourced, recalibrated and distributed to help save lives?
The reuse of state-of-the-art life saving devices is helping to improve the healthcare of communities in Fiji, other Pacific nations and India.

WHO WE ARE

We’re an Australian aid foundation supporting fragile health systems with medical equipment, supplies, training and support.

It’s amazing what can happen when passionate and dedicated volunteers come together to make a positive impact.

Vedanta Charitable Foundation is made up of a group of Aussie volunteers and aid organisations who work tirelessly to source tonnes of medical equipment and supplies to aid those who need it most.

Some of our volunteers and sponsors were born in Fiji. Others want to be part of a heartwarming effort to provide critical support to healthcare facilities and the sick or disabled in Fiji, other Pacific nations and within India’s needy communities.

Together with our donors, we work to help transform lives and make our world a healthier and happier place for all.

OUR APPROACH

Partnering With Healthcare Networks

In Australia, hospitals sometimes need to replace or remove perfectly good medical equipment due to upgrades or redundancy caused by technological advances and legislative requirements. These state-of-the-art medical devices are still in good working condition but they are no longer needed by the hospitals. Unfortunately, it is often sold to the open market.

We partner with Queensland hospitals and other large medical facilities to source life-saving equipment. Our expert biomedical engineers recalibrate/service the equipment and our warehouse volunteers organise its delicate packing and transportation.

In Fiji, other Pacific nations and India, our true success has been getting the equipment to the right medical centres and individuals in the wider community where the greatest need exists. Once installed, our team provides clinical and technical training support and provide ongoing equipment maintenance where possible to ensure the longevity of our projects.

Step 01

— Sourcing Medical Equipment

Modern medical equipment and supplies are identified, procured and transported to storage. This includes wheelchairs, crutches, hospital beds, shower chairs, emergency room vital signs machines, IV towers, anesthetic equipment, dialysis units, electro cardiograph machines, cardiac stress machines, mammography units and so much more.

Step 02

— Repair & Export

Each item is stored, inspected, and if required, recalibrated by biomedical engineers before it is made transport-ready for a safe journey to Fiji. All donations are carefully packed and transported in shipping containers that are made ready for sea and air transport.

Step 03

— Distribution & Installation

The Ramakrishna Mission of Fiji receives the shipments and through its network of healthcare providers, organises the distribution. Where possible, VCF supports the installation and clinical training required to ensure the best use of the medical equipment supplied to hospitals, medical centres and the wider community.

Step 04

— Clinical & Technical Training

We strongly believe in training Fiji’s clinical and technical staff. This is to achieve the best outcome for patients and to ensure the longevity of all equipment that is provided for Fiji and within the Pacific.

We Supply More Than Medical Equipment

VCF works with Queensland’s Someone Who Cares charity and Ramakrishna Mission Fiji in other key health areas as well, such as community health and education. Our work includes:
– non-communicable disease education/support
– providing much needed equipment for patients, the aged and the disabled.
– Placing educational material into the hands of students
